Update

A Noahide couple has recently posted this on their Facebook page and sent it to many Noahides and Jewish friends.  You are welcome to copy this letter and send it to anyone that you know that may not be aware of Vendyl's medical and financial problems.

  Vendyl Jones

Dear Friends,

Vendyl Jones will be 80 years old on May 29, 2010.  He has spent most of his life devoted to Biblical study and archaeology, and support of the State of Israel. (You can read more about him on his Biography page.)

Many of you have been personally impacted by Vendyl’s knowledge of Torah, participated on his archaeological digs in Israel, or have contributed to his research at Vendyl Jones Research Institutes.

Perhaps  you may have been a visitor in his home and been the recipient of Vendyl and Anita’s amazing hospitality.  If so, you are aware that over the years Vendyl and Anita have demonstrated their loving kindness by helping many less-fortunate people.

But now the time has arrived for his friends and supporters to help Vendyl.

He was recently diagnosed with throat cancer, and was hospitalized to begin treatment.  Vendyl is very ill.  Although he is currently at home and being tended to by Anita, daily visits from healthcare professionals and frequent trips to the doctor.  The medical bills continue to pile up.  Vendyl and Anita are unable to pay many of the personal bills because their only means of support has been Vendyl’s Social Security and the dwindling contributions from those faithful who contributed to VJRI over the years.  Vendyl’s insurance and Medicare are not covering all of the medical expenses.

This is an URGENT APPEAL for funds.  Please do the following:  1) Go to PayPal and select Send Money/Personal and use this email address:  anita_jones@windstream.net.  Or you may mail checks to: Vendyl & Anita Jones, PO Box 489, Grandview, Texas 76050-0489.

You can also send your messages to the above email.

If you are aware of others who may know Vendyl and would like to help the cause, please copy and paste this message in an email, or give them a call.  We can’t begin to reach all the people he’s known over the years!

 Shalom,

Jim and Carol Long

Vendyl held dual citizenship in Israel, so with special permission from the rabbinate in Israel and the local community,
Vendyl Jones was buried in a private cemetery in Migdal, Israel.  Just north of Tiberias his earthly remains will be
surrounded by an olive grove beneath the shadow of Mount Arbel and overlooking the north end of Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee)

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Vendyl.  Please pray for his wife, Anita, and his family.

He has many, many friends worldwide.  His influence in the Noahide and Jewish communities will be missed, but will

help his memory survive.

A few days before Thanksgiving Vendyl came down with pneumonia and had to return to the hospital.
Fortunately, he has recovered from that, but once the chemo and radiation treatments began again he was very weak,
so has remained in the hospital.  After his final radiation treament he will be moved to Regency Hospital in Fort Worth for 2-3 weeks.

Anita is relieved that the chemo and radiation will be BEHIND him and he can now go into a recovery process!  Vendyl's
attitude is good and he's looking forward to being able to speak and eat again.

The below letter is sent by Gilda John, a close friend and former co-worker with Vendyl:

Dear Noahides--

Verne and I stopped by to see Vendyl on Saturday afternoon.

Vendyl had 5 radiation treatments last week--one every day, and he had
chemotherapy last Wednesday. The left side of his face is swollen and
disfigured. I can only imagine what his throat looks like. He can't really
speak, and the medication he takes for pain causes him to sleep most of the
time. He seemed glad to see us but communication was difficult.

Anita feeds him through a tube in his stomach four times a day.

His treatments have been halted until the swelling in his face goes down.
I would say the situation is dire.

You are receiving this email because your name is in the directory that was
distributed at the Conference last May.
(This is the place in my email for some antidote that will remind us how much
Vendyl means to us, but I don't have the heart for it--not today. He's too sick.
I'm too brokenhearted. If you know Vendyl, you have your own stories. He's that
special.)

Anyone who has dealt with and/or is dealing with cancer knows that it takes a
toll financially. Each time Vendyl sees a doctor, he pays a $35 copay. Each trip
to treatment probably costs an extra $20 for gas and meals. My understanding is
that the credit cards are charged to their maximum. (Vendyl could use help
retiring about $22k in debt.)

You can easily see that there is plenty of room to help or to help more. $20 for
gas and meals; $35 for a copay; or a larger amount if you are so inclined to
help retire Vendyl's credit card debt. No amount is too small.

Here is how you can help:

Vendyl is beginning his combination chemo/radiation treatments this coming week.  They will be done weekly
until they have more conclusive results about his tumor.  He was told that this part of the treatment will be the
most severe and he will feel much worse before he feels better.  Please keep Vendyl and Anita in your prayers during this time.

Please remember that this is also quite a financial burden for them.

Anything you can do to help is much appreciated.  Here's how.

Friday, August 20, 2010

Vendyl has successfully undergone three chemo treatments with out bad side effects and is relatively well.
He frequently goes into town to the local cafe and eats breakfast or lunch.  He is maintaining his weight
and his blood tests are good.

He has had some dental work and after one more trip it should be completed.  Then he will start the
combination chemo & radiation treatments in late August or early September.  It is not know how many
of these treatments are planned.

His doctor is encouraged with Vendyl's progress.  Please keep Vendyl, in your prayers.

Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Vendyl has returned to the hospital for another round of chemo.  His personal dentist has advised him that he will only have to extract a wisdom tooth and will try to cure the gum disease before beginning the radiation.  Total teeth extraction will not be necessary if this can be done successfully.

Monday, July 26, 2010

It has been determined by a few different doctors that the tumor cannot be operated on.   The radiologist is requesting a third chemo treatment because the tumor has swollen again and seem to shrink some after chemo treatments.    Vendyl will still have to undergo radiation treatments in the future.    However, the radiation will have to wait until he finishes some dental work--extraction of all his teeth.  The fear is that the radiation might cause osteoradionecrosis, and he is already suffering from some gum disease.

Tuesday, June 15, 2010

Vendyl entered the hospital for another round of chemotherapy last week, but is once more at home.  Each time he does this he is very fatigued every day and does not have an appetite for several days, but at last report he is bouncing back and asking to accompany Anita on errands.

Friday, May 28, 2010

Vendyl will be 80 on May 29th.  He has gained 20 pounds and is looking forward to being at the Noahide Conference.  It will be determined in early June if he continues treatment.

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

The oncologist is very pleased with Vendyl's blood tests, increased appetite and weight gain.  Wednesday, May 12th, Vendyl was supposed to enter the hospital for five days to have another round of chemotherapy.  However, the doctor wants to monitor the tumor until June before any additional treatment.  Vendyl still plans to attend the Noahide Conference that is being held over the Memorial Day Weekend.  Vendyl and Anita want to express their deepest gratitude for those people who have helped them financially.

Sunday, May 2, 2010

His strength is improving daily.  He walked out on the front porch today an asked Anita to find out WHEN the feeding tube could be removed.  He has been taking some light meals orally and prowling the kitchen from time to time.  He still spends most of his time in bed.  There's a possibility he may have to have radiation as well, but that has not been determined to be for sure.

Sunday, April 25, 2010

Vendyl has returned home after a week in the hospital and several days of chemotherapy. In an attempt to gain some weight, a feeding tube was inserted into his stomach.  Doctors have also stated he needs a pacemaker, but feel he is too weak at this time.

VENDYL HOSPITALIZED

After being diagnosed with throat cancer, Vendyl Jones has been hospitalized at Huguley Memorial Hospital in Burleson, Texas.  His physician is recommending a treatment of chemo-therapy and possibly radiation, to halt the growth of the tumor. Vendyl, now 79 years of age, experienced severe weight loss with the onset of the disorder, therefore, the immediate plan to treat for weight loss and restore his strength before proceeding with the cancer treatment.  Vendyl remains in good spirits and is maintaining a positive attitude.

In the meantime, the family simply asks for your prayers and deeply appreciates the expressions of concern for  Vendyl's speedy recovery.
